Colston Bassett Diary
For centuries Stilton Cheese had been made in the farmhouses of the Vale of Belvoir. Both my grandmothers were making Stiltons during the summer, prior to the building of the Dairy. It was a seasonal occupation. When milk was surplus to the requirements of the liquid market, Stiltons were made from April to September.

School - Recent Times
Mrs. C. J. Cessford 1994-2007 I was appointed to Colston Bassett Primary School on the retirement of Miss Beryl Crabtree. We spent many hours going over the daily, weekly and monthly procedures in order to make a smooth transition. The biggest change was the local management of school and the change over to computerised systems.

School - Victorian Times
Colston Bassett & Owthorpe Church of England School was established in April 1872, with the building provided by the estate owner, George Thomas Davy Esq. The School closed in September 2006 due to falling numbers. During the 134 years of its existence, there were seven head teachers: Mary E Shorter (1872-1877), Ada W Challons (1878-1919), L Till (1920-1935), M Whittle (1935- 1936), A M Cooper (1936-1962), Beryl Crabtree (1962-1994), Carol Cessford (1994-2007). The School Log books and Register date from 1873, providing a lively portrait of this aspect of village life.
